In their first match at the Eden Gardens in nearly four years, the Kolkata Knight Riders were in serious difficulty against Royal Challengers Bangalore after losing five wickets inside the first 12 overs. But Shardul Thakur came through when it counted and captivated everyone with his power-hitting skills.
The cricketer, who cost KKR INR 10.75 crore to acquire from the Delhi Capitals, proved in his second game for the team why he was so valuable. In Eden Gardens, his “see the ball, hit the ball” strategy worked wonderfully. Because of his 68 runs off 29 balls, the Kolkata Knight Riders posted a whopping 204 runs after 20 overs.
After his outstanding inning, Shardul Thakur admitted he had no idea how it came to be so good. The cricketer from Palghar added that he has spent a lot of time practicing in the nets, including slogging and range-hitting.
“I have no idea where that came from, but based on the scorecard at the time, everyone would have assumed that we were having trouble. What takes control is your subconscious mind. We put a lot of effort into the nets, but you also need to have certain talents to achieve things at a higher level. We have a time when we can work hard on the net. The coaching crew does the throwdowns and offers us range-hitting as an option. And you are aware that the pitches always favor batting.
According to Shardul Thakur, as reported by the Hindustan Times,.
The KKR spinners decimate the RCB batting lineup.
Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis provided the RCB with the solid start they needed as they chased a massive total of 205 runs up to Nitish Rana’s introduction of spinners. The two-time champions had their first breakthrough when Sunil Narine, a master of spin, removed Virat Kohli. Varun Chakravarthy then sent Du Plessis back to the pavilion after the skipper had scored 23 runs.
Varun went on to take three more wickets, and Suyash Sharma, making his debut, astounded everyone with a three-wicket haul. The KKR spinners took nine wickets overall and completely dismantled the RCB batting lineup to win the game by 81 runs. Notably, Chakravarthy now holds the second-place position in the IPL Purple Cap competition after his four-wicket haul.
