Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has come under fire from former opener Ahmed Shahzad, who has publicly questioned both his leadership skills and cricket knowledge.
The Men in Green were given scathing criticism following their surprising 10-wicket defeat by Bangladesh in the first Test match at Rawalpindi, which was the Bengal Tigers’ first-ever Test victory over the host country.
The Pakistani cricket team has had a run of poor results, the most recent of which being the humiliating loss to Bangladesh.
Pakistan’s losing run in Test matches now stands at four, coming after a 3-0 series rout against Australia. Early in 2021, the squad defeated South Africa in their last home Test victory. In his critique of Naqvi, Shahzad omitted certain words.
This is what occurs when adjustments are not made in a timely manner. You stopped making decisions because you were afraid. I was informed that Mohsin Naqvi, upon his appointment as PCB chief, was a courageous, unwavering, astute, and extremely powerful individual. Someone mentioned that Naqvi would be the one to alter the PCB if they could. Though we haven’t seen it yet, it is evident from what he has done thus far that Mohsin Naqvi knows very little about cricket, Shahzad wrote on X.
Like others before you, Ahmed Shahzad, you lied to people.
Following Pakistan’s dismal performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, especially after their loss to India, the 32-year-old further criticised Naqvi for his phoney pledges of reform. Naqvi was charged with deceiving the public by Shahzad.
“To keep people quiet after Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 loss to India, you said that you would operate on Pakistani cricketers. You didn’t succeed in doing it, though. Similar to others, you have lied to people in the past. What were your thoughts? That you would purchase time? think once you win the Test series against Bangladesh, people will settle down a little before you make your adjustments, but that did not happen,” he continued.
He asked for a lack of significant reform in the governance of the sport after discussing the persistent influence of well-known individuals in Pakistani cricket.

“Those who have controlled Pakistani cricket for the previous twelve to fifteen years continue to make the decisions. The result was Bangladesh’s first-ever Test match victory over Pakistan. Never in my life have I witnessed something like this,” he said.
