At the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, March 22, the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by seven wickets in the first match of the 2025 Indian Premier League.
KKR got off to a fast start because to captain Ajinkya Rahane’s brilliant 56 runs in 31 balls. However, the squad faltered in the middle overs, scoring 174/8.
The batting unit will recover, according to skipper Ajinkya Rahane, notwithstanding the outcome of the first game.
“Those batting in the middle order are skilled, dangerous, and explosive players,” he remarked. They’ve dealt with a lot of such scenarios before. Giving them autonomy and letting them go out there to play their game is always the key.
“It appears promising when that works out. Even though it didn’t work out today, it will happen eventually. At the press conference after the game, he told the media, “It’s a long tournament; we’re going to back every individual.”
“For me, it’s all about contributing to the team,” the seasoned player said, looking back on his batting performance. All of the runs I score are for the team, and that’s what counts to me. Getting those runs and winning is what I would rather do.
“We have batters who like to go after the bowlers,” Rahane said, providing additional insight into the KKR opening lineup. One of the more dangerous players in this style has been Quinton de Kock. His runs have come at the top of the order. We are all aware of Sunil’s (Narine) outstanding season and his recent success. Together, we think de Kock and Narine may be a potent starting duo.
When the Kolkata Knight Riders play the Rajasthan Royals on March 26 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, they will try to recover.
