In the Indian Premier League’s history, star batsman Ajinkya Rahane has amassed 5000 runs. When the Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings faced off in Match 57 of the 2025 Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the Maharashtra native reached the milestone and made it into the elite list. The captain of KKR in the current edition of the prestigious competition is Rahane.
He achieved the milestone aged 36 years and 335 days, making him the third-oldest player to do so. MS Dhoni, the captain of CSK, set the record for being the oldest player to reach 5000 runs in the IPL at 41 years and 270 days of age. In contrast, AB de Villiers reached 5000 runs in the league at the age of 37 years and 69 days. At just 30 years and 143 days, Virat Kohli of the RCB, who has played for the same team his whole career, is the youngest player on the list.
Ajinkya Rahane has played for several teams, including the Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Rising Pune Super Giants, after beginning his IPL career with the Mumbai Indians. In addition, he has two IPL hundreds, both of which were earned by the Rajasthan-based team. During his maiden IPL season in 2012, the seasoned batsman amassed 560 runs at an average of 40.00, including one century and three half-centuries.
Despite his patchy captaincy, Ajinkya Rahane has been having an incredible run as the reigning champions’ No. 3 hitter in the current competition.
For the Kolkata-based team, the Ashwi-KD-born player has amassed 375 runs at an average of 37.50 in 11 innings thus far, including three fifties. He leads his team in runs scored as well. In the remaining league stage games, Rahane would want to set an example and guide KKR to the top four for the tournament’s final stretch, since their prospects of qualifying are in thin air.
