Ajinkya Rahane, the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), was unfortunate to sustain a hit on his right hand while fielding during Tuesday night’s thrilling 14-run victory over the Delhi Capitals (DC). After the seasoned batter was forced to leave the field in the middle of innings, KKR had to delegate leadership responsibilities to Sunil Narine, who delivered a game-winning effort to preserve their hopes of making the playoffs.
While fielding at short cover, Rahane was struck on the hand by a drive from Faf du Plessis off the bowling of Andre Russell.
Ajinkya Rahane left the pitch, clearly in pain, and did not come back with his hand tightly bound.
Rahane was hopeful that he will make a speedy recovery despite the injury scare. “Very good. I’ll be alright. At the post-match presentation, he declared, “I’ll be alright.” Anukul Roy, who was participating in his first match of the season, gave additional information regarding the KKR captain’s injuries in the meantime.
“It doesn’t appear to be that serious. It may take him two or three days. He is fine for the time being, but the physicians will provide a more detailed picture. “It’s manageable,” Anukul remarked, adding that he received a few stitches.
Sunil Narine receives his 17th POTM award in IPL history.
Impact Player Vaibhav Arora was already replaced by vice-captain Venkatesh Iyer, therefore KKR relied on their seasoned spinner to guide the team through the rest of the innings. With a magnificent 3/29, 27 runs at bat, a strong direct shot to run out KL Rahul, and a deft catch at reverse point, the 36-year-old contributed significantly to the victory.
Because of a solid PowerPlay that saw them score 79/1 in the first six overs, KKR started the game with a total of 204/9. Rinku Singh (36 off 25) and Andre Russell (25 off 10) made sure they reached the 200-run mark despite a mini-collapse in the last overs, while Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz got off to a strong start as they struck boundaries with ease.
With du Plessis (62), Axar Patel (43), and Vipraj Nigam (38), DC responded by pursuing the chase. However, Narine destroyed their aspirations with a four-over spell in which he removed du Plessis, Axar, and Stubbs. His combined efforts, together with Varun Chakravarthy’s crucial breakthroughs, held DC to 190/8.
