Akash Deep has become the buzz of the town after playing an important role in India’s first-ever Test victory at Edgbaston in Birmingham last week. The Asian heavyweights trounced England by 336 runs in the second Test in “The Magic City” to equal the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series after five matches.
The Bengal speedster got ten wickets in the encounter on a pitch that didn’t help the bowlers. He took six wickets in the second innings to help India end their long winless streak at Edgbaston.
Akash Deep’s ability to seam the ball from a length seemed to confuse the England hitters.
Following India’s historic victory, Deep stated in an interview with Cheteshwar Pujara for Sony Sports Network that his sister is facing cancer and that he dedicated his performance to her.
Akhand Deep’s sister, Jyoti Singh, gave an emotional interview to India Today after hearing his adoring brother’s wonderful remarks about his Edgbaston heroics.
She explained that her message to Deep before he left on his tour of England was simple. Jyoti urged his brother to focus on performing well for India and not be concerned about her because she was OK. She stated that her cancer is in its third stage and that she will continue treatment for six months.
“He has taken ten wickets, which gives India great pride. We met him at the airport prior to his England visit. I told him, ‘I’m good, don’t worry about me; just perform well for the country.’ I am in the third stage of cancer, and the doctor has told me that the therapy will continue for six months, after which we will see,” Akash Deep’s sister revealed in an exclusive interview.
“It makes me really delighted when Akash gets wickets. “Whenever he gets a wicket, all of us start clapping and cheering so loudly that the neighbours in the colony wonder what happened!” she laughed.
