Prior to the fourth Ashes Test on Wednesday, July 19, at Old Trafford in Manchester, Team Australia’s batsman Steve Smith made a fairly humorous jab at the English media featuring Alex Carey. This comes after the proprietor of a barbershop in Leeds accused Carey of refusing to pay for a haircut and leaving his shop. The English media then reported on the incident, which attracted a great deal of interest from fans.
In that vein, Smith shared a rib-tickling post after Carey got a haircut and indicated that he had paid for it in a sneaky jab at the English media.

Earlier, Sir Alastair Cook, a former England captain, commented on the event during the third Ashes Test at Headingley in Leeds.
“He (Alex Carey) hasn’t paid, the barber said. He claimed he would have a transfer later in the day, and this was right before he closed. It was one of those cash-only deals. I’m not making this up; this is an actual story, Alastair Cook remarked during commentary.
After the WTC final, Alex Carey did not have a haircut, and Cricket Australia disputes the Leeds barber incident
Cricket Australia (CA) did not back down from expressing their opinion on the subject and categorically denied the media’s assertions. Additionally, CA said that since playing in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021–23 final against Team India in London, the player has not had a haircut or gone to the barber.
In order to authenticate the transaction, the board also confirmed that another anonymous Australian cricketer visited the Leeds barbershop and paid with an international transfer. The two bitter rivals will square off at Old Trafford in Manchester for the penultimate Test of the Ashes after a ten-day cooling-off break.
Australia currently leads the series 2-1 despite losing the Headingley Test, and they will be aiming to seal the series win in the following Test. The Three Lions will need to step up their game in the meantime to tie the series again.
