In the men’s 57 kg Freestyle Wrestling competition at the Paris Olympics on Friday, August 9, at the Champ de Arena, Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat brought honour to his nation by winning the bronze medal. In the ongoing global event, this ended up becoming India’s sixth medal.
At the age of 21 years and 24 days, Sehrawat accomplished the incredible accomplishment of becoming the youngest Indian to win an individual Olympic medal. He exceeded 21 years, 1 month, and 14 days old PV Sindhu, who took home the silver medal at the 2016 Olympics. It’s interesting to note that at the Paris Summer Games, Sehrawat was the youngest male wrestler.
Sehrawat won the Brone medal after defeating Darian Doi Cruz of Puerto Rico. Tuesday’s matchup between him and the top-seeded Japanese wrestler, Rei Higuchi, ended in a loss. India has won medals in wrestling at the Olympic Games every year since 2008 thanks to the latest accomplishment of the Birohar native.
Only one male wrestler from India, the U-23 world champion, qualified for the Paris Games. On Friday, he presented the history script to his pupils. India is about to match its remarkable medal total from the Tokyo Games, where their athletes won seven medals in all, thanks to Sehrawat’s achievement. Neeraj Chopra earned silver in the men’s javelin throw, while he claimed the fifth Bronze medal for India at the current Olympics.
Following this magnificent victory, Sehrawat, overcome with emotion, dedicated his medal to his parents, whom he lost when he was only eleven years old.
“My parents have always desired for me to wrestle.” They were unaware about the Olympics, but they were certain that I would become a wrestler. Business Today cited him as stating, “I dedicate this medal to my parents and to the nation.”
