Shubman Gill’s performance against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2025 was praised by former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayadu. The captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT) lost out on a well-earned century by ten runs. Despite having trouble at the beginning, he managed to hit three sixes and eleven boundaries. Vaibhav Arora got rid of him in the 18th over.
But by then, he had ruined KKR’s bowling order. After being made to bat first, GT lost to score 198 runs in the first innings. Sai Sudarshan and Gill gave them the much-needed start, which Butler later changed. GT’s top order handled the batting well, as seen by the fact that they only lost three wickets.
The former cricket player talked about Gill and how he was able to regain his rhythm. In addition, the surface was slow and sluggish, but Gill batted sensibly, which helped the Gujarat-based team win.
“Harshit Rana’s two wide deliveries were the catalyst; Gill was having some trouble before to that. However, he truly got his rhythm after that. We witnessed several amazing shots that were the epitome of cricketing skill. In particular, that slog sweep against Sunil Narine was outstanding. He was able to run all across the field, but it was a difficult shot to make. That demonstrates batsmanship—shrewd placement and boundaries along the ground. It demonstrates his calibre and the solidity of his top-order relationships. When the pitch is slow and sluggish, that’s how you bat. On JioStar, Ambati Rayadu praised Shubman Gill’s amazing batting.
We love seeing him bat so much: Ambati Rayadu
In reference to Sai Sudarshan, Rayadu stated that he enjoys seeing the youthful batter. Sudarshan, meanwhile, amassed 52 runs off 36 balls, including one maximum and six boundaries. His strike rate when batting was 144.44. Sudarshan used pace on the sluggish field and kept his focus on the ball while playing traditional cricket.
“Watching him bat brings us tremendous delight. He demonstrates how the game can still be played in a conventional manner as a classical batsman by using the ball’s pace, playing under your eyes, keeping it along the ground, and playing smart cricket. Playing intelligent cricket boosts confidence and results in runs. There are repercussions when you are that confident in the dugout. Everyone benefits from that momentum, and your judgement and mental clarity improve significantly. Rayadu continued, “That’s what we’re seeing with him this season.”
