Australia is preparing for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024–25). In order to end their losing trend against India in the BGT, the Pat Cummins-led team would be hoping to do well in the five-game series.
Notably, Australia has not yet revealed their series roster, and many have supported the inclusion of young Sam Konstas. Konstas has performed admirably in the Sheffield Shield while representing New South Wales. In a recent statement, Australia’s head coach Andrew McDonald talked about Konstas’ possible selection in the team for the prestigious series. His play in the Sheffield Shield has undoubtedly drawn attention, he acknowledged.
“The best team for the moment is chosen whenever we choose a test squad. If a younger player is included in it, we’ll take that route. After his debut Shield encounter, Sam Konstas has undoubtedly made a splash with his style of play against Scott Boland in the second innings at the MCG, McDonald told ABC TV’s Offsiders.
They are prepared in our minds if they are: Andrew McDonald
McDonald also mentioned that if a player is competent enough, it doesn’t matter who the adversary is. Sam Konstas might be featured in the series against India, he believed, if he is judged ready.
“If they are prepared, they are prepared in our minds, and if Sam is competent and we believe he can fill that position, I don’t think the opponent should be considered. You must begin against someone, and you should not be “holding back” or shielding someone from a possible adversary.
