Rajat Patidar, Yash Dayal, and Virat Kohli were retained by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) prior to the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 2025 mega auction. As a result, Faf du Plessis, their captain from the 2022–2024 IPL, was let go. The team was supposed to bring the Proteas back, but they didn’t even use the RTM card because the Delhi Capitals paid INR 2 crore for the cricket player.
There was a great deal of speculation that Kohli, who gave up his position as captain of the RCB in 2022, would return to the top spot. RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, had said that no decision had been made on the topic, despite the fact that the franchise had not provided any formal confirmation even after the massive auction.
Andy Flower, the head coach, later reiterated the same point, stating that the “communication has not happened yet.”
“Well, you’ll just have to wait and see what happens. The beginning of a three-year cycle marks the beginning of a new period, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the anticipation. You are welcome to ask me as frequently as you like, but that conversation has not yet taken place.
RCB brought a sizable sum to the auction and purchased 19 players. In addition to hiring big batter Phil Salt for INR 12 crore, they spent the most money on Australia’s Josh Hazlewood, a bowler. In order to strengthen their bowling arsenal, they acquired Australia’s explosive batsman Tim David (INR 3 crore) and veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar (INR 10.75 crore).
