Mitchell Starc’s brilliant death bowling performance in the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) last match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) was the only one that helped his club win their fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match. After taking the match into a Super Over, the left-armer destroyed RR by bowling yorker after yorker.
In the last over against Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel, Starc defended nine runs. However, Starc faced Rahul Tewatia and Jos Buttler in the match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on Saturday, April 19, and had 10 runs to defend. Additionally, the latter ensured that there would not be another Starc masterclass by scoring the necessary runs in just two balls.
Sai Sudharsan (21-ball 36) and Buttler put up 60 runs for the second wicket, but GT lost Shubman Gill in the second over while chasing a goal of 204. Then, along with Buttler, Sherfane Rutherford (34-ball 43) took control and drove Gujarat ahead. When GT needed 15 runs off of 12, Mukesh Kumar bowled an incredible 19th over, dismissing Rutherford and giving up just five runs.
The GT dugout appeared agitated because of what Mitchell Starc had done in the last game, and new batter Tewatia was on strike.
Tewatia, on the other hand, has encountered this circumstance numerous times and has, for the most part, supported the Titans.
For a spectacular six, Tewatia stood deep in the crease and blasted the yorker over deep mid-wicket after Starc narrowly missed it. GT won that six, and Starc understood he couldn’t pull off the unbelievable every game. Once more, the left-arm seamer attempted a yorker and succeeded, but Tewatia received an inside edge that went for a boundary towards fine leg.
With 11 from three deliveries, Tewatia kept Buttler undefeated at 97 off 54. Gujarat won the match and moved up to the top of the IPL 2025 points table, but Buttler didn’t care that a century would have tied Virat Kohli’s record of most hundreds in the IPL (8).
