Currently, Anrich Nortje may be the fastest bowler in all of cricket. He might have been an effective choice for South Africa as they try to capture their first World Cup in India in October-November. According to rumors, the 29-year-old’s back issue will prevent him from traveling to India.
In the recent five-match series against Australia at home, Anrich Nortje participated in the second ODI.
Before leaving after bowling five overs, he claimed a back spasm. In the second innings, he came out to bat rather than bowl again and scored 10 runs off of 13 balls. The Proteas decided not to take a chance on Nortje before the World Cup, therefore he was out for the remainder of the series. Nortje was included in South Africa’s 15-person roster for the championship competition as an unknown.
No Anrich Nortje for the World Cup. Massive disappointment for him and for the Proteas as his experience and pace in Indian conditions would have been vital. Interesting who will replace him in the squad.
