Anshul Kamboj, a young and promising fast bowler, is expected to be called up for India’s fourth Test against England in the ongoing five-match series. On Monday, July 21, he replaced Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had flown back to recover from a knee ailment.
The medium-pacer was pictured grinding it out under the sun in Manchester, bowling extended periods during a net practice on Monday, July 21. He was sighted bowling alongside Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna as the visiting team trains its bowling unit for the crucial match at Old Trafford in Manchester.
According to The Hindu, head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel were seen conversing with him while bowling to KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant. The 24-year-old occasionally challenged batters with his pace. National selectors Ajit Agarkar and SS Das had kept a close eye on the Haryana bowler.
Bumrah will spearhead the pace attack, with the series on the line. Siraj is likewise a default choice, unless team combinations are prioritised. Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh have yet to fully recover from their injuries, making Kamboj a possible third seaming option. He might easily make his national debut on Wednesday, July 23rd.
Anshul Kamboj recently played a couple of games for India A against England before the start of this series.
He was especially impressive in the second meeting in Northampton, where the Karnal native scored 2/56 and 2/6. Interestingly, he hit an unbeaten 51 in the second innings of the same game.
Mohammed Siraj also mentioned that the bowling combinations may alter. As a result, Kamboj’s debut appears to be imminent. India is now trailing the series 1-2 and will be looking to level the score in Manchester after losing by a mere 22 runs at Lord’s.
