Anshul Kamboj, a young fast bowler, has been added to India’s Test squad for the ongoing tour of England, following the injury-related removal of Arshdeep Singh, who suffered a deep cut on his bowling hand and will miss the fourth Test in Manchester.
The 24-year-old recently played for India A in two three-day matches against the England Lions last month, taking five wickets in each games. Kamboj has steadily established himself on the home circuit with his excellent pace and line. He has 79 wickets in 24 first-class matches while representing Haryana.
“Arshdeep has a deep cut and has received sutures; he will need at least ten days to fully recover.
“The selectors have decided to add Anshul Kamboj to the squad,” a BCCI source told The Indian Express.
India’s pace attack has been given a blow ahead of the fourth Test in Manchester, with Arshdeep out due to a deep cut on his left hand sustained during a net session on Thursday. The injury occurred when Arshdeep attempted to halt Sai Sudharsan’s straight drive on the follow-through. Despite the fact that the wound was quickly stitched up, he is unlikely to recover in time for the match.
“Arshdeep took a ball while bowling there; Sai hit a ball and tried to stop it, resulting in a cut. So we need to see how serious the cut is. Obviously, the medical team has taken him to see a doctor, and whether or not he needs stitches will have an impact on our plans for the following several days,” said Ryan ten Doeschate.
India’s injury list continues to increase ahead of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, which begins on July 23, with several key players experiencing fitness issues. Apart from Arshdeep, Akash Deep is the most recent addition to the list, having left the pitch during England’s 28th over on Day 4 of the third Test at Lord’s due to discomfort.
He is apparently suffering from a groin injury and did not participate in the final nets practice before leaving for Manchester. The pacer was observed gripping his waist and grimacing in pain, joined by the team’s physiotherapist. He returned on the field later, but did not bowl again that day. Akash has a history of injury setbacks, missing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024 and the IPL in 2025 due to fitness concerns.
Additionally, vice-captain Rishabh Pant is being monitored after being struck on the index finger of his left hand while attempting to receive a ball from Jasprit Bumrah on Day 1 at Lord’s.
