Since his game-winning half-century against South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final, Virat Kohli has had trouble at the bat. The renowned Arjuna Ranatunga stated that there is no reason to place excessive pressure on the former India captain, despite some experts and fans beginning to debate whether Kohli’s international career is about to end.
Kohli only managed 190 runs from nine innings during the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia, which was a poor performance. After a lengthy absence, he made a comeback to domestic cricket but was unsuccessful. Due to a knee injury, Kohli missed the first ODI against England in Nagpur. He returned for the second match in Cuttack, however Adil Rashid bowled him for five runs.
The fact that runs are no longer coming off Kohli’s blade puts a lot of strain on him. Ranatunga, however, insisted that the player should make the final decision about Kohli’s future.
“I think it’s best if that’s left to Kohli, a player who has hit a lot of runs. Let Kohli make the decision; he needs to do it. Why is he always in the spotlight? I think it’s really unnecessary.
In an interview with the Telegraph, Arjuna Ranatunga stated, “Let him take that; it is his decision.”
In order to assist the Delhi hitter regain his form, Ranatunga also recommended that he speak with cricketing greats like Rahul Dravid, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Sunil Gavaskar.
“I believe that Kohli should address Rahul Dravid, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Sunil Gavaskar. He is capable of doing it. “They can definitely assist him,” Ranatunga remarked.
Ranatunga believed that one solid innings would be enough to get Kohli and Rohit Sharma back to their previous level of play.
“Considering their size and the type of batsman they have been, I believe they can get back into the swing of things with only one strong innings. “Let’s see,” Ranatunga remarked.
In the second ODI, Rohit ended his poor run with the willow with a spectacular century. When India plays England in the third One-Day International on Wednesday, February 12 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the pressure will be on Kohli.
