Arshdeep Singh backed for XI

The Indian team management was cautioned by former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin that Arshdeep Singh‘s confidence and rhythm would suffer if he isn’t permitted to play games regularly. His remarks followed the exclusion of India’s top T20I wicket-taker from the starting lineup for the first two ODIs against New Zealand.

Arshdeep participated in all three games and claimed five wickets in the ODI series against South Africa towards the end of last year. In addition, he was the series’ most economical bowler, displaying far superior control over his countrymen Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana. However, the administration of the Indian team, under the leadership of head coach Gautam Gambhir, has chosen to start Mohammed Siraj, who is returning, along with Rana and Krishna in the first two One-Day Internationals against New Zealand.

According to Ashwin, Arshdeep merits a spot in the squad because of his long history of dependability with the ball.

Since he has gone through a similar stage in his career, the former captain of Tamil Nadu stated he can relate to Arshdeep’s feelings.
