Cricket Australia believes the combative tone of the existing Test series between England and India will have a beneficial rippling effect on demand for venue tickets for the next, much-anticipated Ashes, which begin later this year.
Todd Greenberg, the chief executive officer of the National Cricket Association, has remarked on the matter. He appeared to be quite enthused about the battle, which pits two age-old adversaries in the historically rich Test series.
“It’s fantastic, isn’t it?” As a fan, I’m enjoying watching the England against India series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. I’m sure everyone will have an opinion when our English friends arrive, which we are really excited about. “I love the way they play cricket, and I can’t wait to see them put it to the test on our shores,” Greenberg said, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Greenberg also stated that pre-sale Ashes tickets have already quadrupled those for the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The tight five-match series had a gross attendance of 837,879.
It was the most attended red-ball event in Australian cricket history, aside from the Ashes.
CA claims that opening day tickets for the five Australia-England matches in Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney are on the edge of selling out. Tickets for Days 1-3 at the Gabba, Adelaide Oval, and SCG are also expected to be sold out, which is fantastic for both financials and fan interest.
England and India face off in their final clash.
Tensions have escalated throughout the current series, with players from both teams going all-in on each other. The Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir‘s recent altercation with Lee Fortis, the principal pitch curator at The Oval, has only fuelled the fire.
The five-match Ashes series is set to begin on November 21 later this year. The match against Australia will take place a few weeks after the white-ball series against India (three ODIs and five T20Is) concludes.
The previous Ashes series between the arch-rivals ended in a 2-2 draw in 2023. That particular series was played in England. The last time England won The Ashes in Australia was way back in the 2010/11 season.
