The Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by a commanding 58 runs in the 23rd IPL 2025 match played at home. With this victory, GT moved up to the lead of the standings with four wins, while RR fell to seventh place.
RR found it difficult to gain traction while chasing a goal of 218 as the GT bowlers applied pressure all through the innings. A solid 48-run partnership between Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer gave RR some optimism, but the chase never really took off.
But it was the return of GT pacer Prasidh Krishna, who had earlier gone for 12 runs in his opening over, to the attack in the 13th over that marked a sea change. G
T bowling coach Ashish Nehra used a substitute to give tactical instruction prior to the start of the over.
The 29-year-old hit the off-stump with a hard-length ball that was slanted into the second ball of the over. The RR captain slashed the ball directly to Sai Kishore at the edge of the circle while trying to make space and direct it towards the third man. One significant development that significantly shifted the game in GT’s favour was the dismissal of the RR opener.

With statistics of 3 for 24, the right-arm pacer concluded his outstanding run. He removed Jofra Archer and the in-form West Indies batsman, who amassed a solid 52 off 32 balls.
Sai Sudharsan was GT’s outstanding batsman earlier in the game, striking a graceful 82 off 53 deliveries. With strong middle order assistance, GT amassed a commanding 217. RR fell well short of the objective after being bowled out for 159 in reply. GT’s dominant victory on home ground was guaranteed by their all-around performance with the bat and the ball.
In an effort to recover from today’s defeat, GT will play the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 12 while RR will play the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 13.
