Following knee surgery on Friday, December 22, Ashton Turner, the captain of the Perth Scorchers, will not be able to play any more in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023–24. This is a huge loss for the team.
Turner participated on Wednesday, December 20, at Optus Stadium in Perth in the ninth game of the lucrative league between the Hobart Hurricanes and the Scorchers. Hobart was struggling at 74/5 when the 30-year-old came in to bowl the 12th over. Turner pulled up due to right knee soreness after bowling the opening ball of the over. He was no longer able to participate in the match after leaving the field.
Turner may require surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee, according to scan data, according to a Scorchers official statement. The reigning champions added that the right-hand hitter will miss the rest of the competition and that a precise comeback date will be estimated at a later date.
“Perth Scorchers captain Ashton Turner will miss the remainder of the KFC BBL 13 season following surgery this morning to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee,” the club announced in a statement.
At present, the Scorchers are evaluating their options for the appointment of a stand-in captain. Prior to their Boxing Day matchup with the Melbourne Renegades, an official announcement will be made.
After a lackluster debut, Ashton Turner hopes to redeem himself in the IPL.
In the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL), Turner played four games for the Rajasthan Royals. Turner recorded three ducks in the four games he participated in. He lost favor following the dreadful performance, but the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) acquired him for INR 1 crore at the base price at the IPL 2024 auction, providing the Perth native with a second chance at redemption.
Earlier in the year, Australian opener Justin Langer was named head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants. The previous season, they were eliminated in the eliminator by the Mumbai Indians after finishing third on the points rankings. Having put up a formidable team, LSG hopes to compete well in the upcoming IPL season.
