Ashwani Kumar, a young left-arm bowler for the Mumbai Indians (MI), had a memorable evening on Monday, March 31 during the IPL 2025 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium. With a four-wicket haul and a key role in dismissing KKR for just 116 runs, the 23-year-old seamer made an incredible start. Aside from his outstanding on-field performance, though, his tattoo attracted notice and became viral very fast.
Stories about tattoos are frequently intimate, and Ashwani Kumar “I Am Enough” story is no exception.
The statement is his potent mantra because it conveys a sense of self-belief and fighting might. When cameras captured the tattoo on his bowling arm as he celebrated a wicket, it went viral.
Born in Jhanjeri, a small Punjabi village, Ashwani struggled financially to follow his cricketing aspirations. He has so far had to fight his way back after being sidelined by injuries and being passed over for domestic selections.
MI paid INR 30 lakh for the youthful pacer.
Ajinkya Rahane, captain, Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, and Manish Pandey were among the four KKR batsmen he dismissed in a spectacular spell during his IPL debut for MI in their third game of the season. He was only the sixth bowler overall and the first Indian to collect four wickets in his IPL debut.
He was unique because of his bounce, ability to surprise batters, and command of line and length. He outplayed Russell with a sharp bouncer and a flawless good-length delivery, disturbed Rahane with his opening ball, and forced Rinku into a false shot. He was attacked by KKR batters, but they were unsuccessful.
Notably, Ashwani was a net bowler for Punjab Kings (PBKS) before playing in a small number of local matches. After seeing his performances in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 tournament in 2024, MI scouts decided to take a chance on him in the IPL 2025 auction, paying INR 30 lakh to hire him. The youthful pacer’s support from the Mumbai Indians came off handsomely. When the club was reeling after two straight defeats and Jasprit Bumrah was out of commission, the youthful player came through for his team.
