The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will not attend the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) Annual General Meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Dhaka on July 23 and 24. A recent media story also notes the adjacent boards’ uncertainty about online attendance at the meet, as the Asia Cup approaches.
The Asian Cricketing Governing Body declined to issue a statement over the absence of two of the region’s five Full Members. Previously, there were concerns about the participation of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and Oman, but a subsequent development has assured their attendance at the annual meeting.
One of the main items on the agenda is this year’s Men’s Asia Cup, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates in September. The multi-nation event was originally scheduled to be held by India, but following a contentious row between them and Pakistan, the UAE was chosen as the most appropriate neutral venue. The unexpected cancellation of the WCL 2025 match raises concerns about the India-Pakistan clash at the event.
BCB is only providing logistical support to ACC: President Aminul Islam
In a first, Bangladesh has hosted a high-level meet for the continental council. Board president Aminul Islam has also issued a statement that BCB is only providing the logistical support to the ACC. When asked about the vacant Indian and Sri Lankan chairs at the meet, Aminul kept his mouth shut on the matter, hinting that there may still be a possibility regarding their attendance, even if it happens virtually.
- “We agreed with the ACC to organize this year’s AGM. It is an ACC programme. We are providing them with logistical support. That’s all we are doing. We are in touch with the ACC, who is informing us who is coming and who is not, as we have to make arrangements for airport pick-ups, hotel bookings and other support,” Aminul said as quoted by on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, BCB President and Chief Executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury welcomed Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB and ACC President, at the Dhaka Airport. A gala dinner is scheduled for the evening, followed by two days of meetings at a hotel in Dhaka.
Earlier, the BCCI requested to change the venue of the AGM.
However, PCB chairman and ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi has refused to consider relocating the meeting and notably skipped the ICC Annual Conference in Singapore. Earlier, the BCCI also cancelled a white-ball series against Bangladesh, originally scheduled to be held in August 2025.
