An exciting event, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 mega auction in Jeddah featured bidding battles, some shocks, and some conspicuous absentees. It was a financial rollercoaster, with 182 players eventually landing contracts and 577 players going under the hammer. The franchisees pursued the top talent, as evidenced by the INR 639.15 crore total investment.

With his record-breaking INR 27 crore contract with the Lucknow Super Giants, Rishabh Pant created headlines. The Gujarat Titans acquired players such as Mohammad Siraj and Jos Buttler through wise selections. With the biggest purse of INR 110.50 crore, Punjab Kings demonstrated their determination to completely rebuild. They spent 56 percent of their purse on three high-profile players and acquired 23 players.

When the Rajasthan Royals selected 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Bihar for INR 1.1 crore, he became the youngest player ever sold. Additionally, KL Rahul moved to Delhi Capitals for INR 14 crore, finding a new home. However, several players encountered severe price swings. While Sam Curran’s value fell sharply from earlier auctions, Jitesh Sharma’s worth skyrocketed from INR 20 lakh to INR 11 crore.

In order to achieve the ideal balance between Indian and foreign players in their roaster, many teams even place aggressive bids on indigenous talent. In contrast, many Indian states saw their players earn enormous salaries in the lucrative competition. However, in some states, no local talent was able to secure a spot in the league.
