Preity Zinta, the owner of the Punjab Kings, recently made a tweet about Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the team. As part of a recent section that Zinta initiated on X, PZ Chat, where she answers questions posted by her followers on the social media site, she did so at the request of one of her followers.
In contrast to his more passionate on-field persona, Zinta was open about the fact that Iyer was a very humble guy off the pitch. She added that the PBKS team management had recruited him for the Jeddah mega-auction the previous year. She even went so far as to acknowledge that the entire team was constructed around Iyer.
Regarding PBKS’ IPL 2025 campaign thus far, they have won five of their nine games. Due to bad weather, their most recent game—their ninth versus the Kolkata Knight Riders—was cancelled. In their allocated 20-over quota, PBKS scored 201/4 after choosing to bat first. Rain at the Eden Gardens spoilt the second innings, allowing only one over to be bowled.

Shreyas is a very down to earth guy and an amazing captain. Very tactical and aggressive in his approach as a player, but the sweetest and the most soft-spoken guy. We are very happy that he is leading Punjab kings & happier we could get him in the auction as he was our first &… https://t.co/Q5AjBXWci0

In relation to Iyer’s form with the bat, he has registered 288 runs in nine innings while maintaining a prolific strike rate of 182.27. The ace batter has hit more sixes (21) than fours (18) so far. As the tournament heads to its business end, a lot would bank on Iyer to lead the way as far as PBKS’ hopes for getting through to the playoffs are concerned.
