The upcoming Australia-India white-ball series is shaping up to be a blockbuster tour, with Cricket Australia (CA) reporting that public ticket allocations for the T20I at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) have officially sold out. The match, which is slated for Friday, October 31, has already sold out more than three weeks in advance.
Australia will host India for a three-match ODI and five-match T20I series from 19 October to 8 November, 2025, and excitement has been building since the fixtures were published, particularly among Indian fans in Australia. Following the success of the Ashes earlier this year, demand for India’s matches has exceeded expectations, making it one of the most anticipated cricket events of the Australian summer.
Cricket Australia announced that total ticket sales for the BKT Tyres Men’s ODI and T20I series have exceeded 175,000, with just over 30,000 tickets remaining for the eight matches. The public allocations for the Sydney and Manuka Oval matches have already been depleted, while tickets for the Adelaide ODI and Gabba T20I are nearly sold out, with fewer than 5,000 left for each. CA CEO Todd Greenberg explained that the sold-out MCG fixture was owing to the series’ popularity.
“The huge crowd anticipated for the Melbourne T201 is another strong indicator of the incredible interest in this series. We’re thrilled to see fans embracing the Australia v India contest with such passion, and we look forward to delivering a world-class experience both on and off the field. To have over 175,000 tickets sold with 13 days until the first ODI in Perth is a phenomenal result. It speaks volumes about the strength of the rivalry and the enthusiasm of fans across the country,” he said in a statement.
Notably, a significant portion of ticket demand has come from Indian fan groups, who have played a massive role. Over 16% of the total tickets sold have been purchased by Indian supporter clubs, led by The Bharat Army with over 2,400 tickets and Fans India with more than 1,400. Community groups such as Brissy Baniyas and the Indian Community of Gold Coast have also secured hundreds of tickets.
BCCI announces India squad for Australia tour
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced India’s squads for both the ODI and T20I legs of the series. Shubman Gill will take over as India’s new ODI captain, succeeding Rohit Sharma, making it his first leadership stint in the 50-over format. The squad also sees the return of Rohit and Virat Kohli, while Shreyas Iyer has been appointed vice-captain.
The T20I squad will be led by Suryakumar Yadav, with Gill serving as vice-captain. Hardik Pandya remains unavailable due to injury, while Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy have been added to the lineup. The series begins with the ODIs from October 19 to 25, followed by the T20Is from October 29 to November 8.
