The 16-man team for Cricket Australia’s (CA) upcoming two-match ODI series against Sri Lanka has been released. Four players were left off of the first roster: Mitchell Marsh, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Marcus Stoinis.
Mitchell Marsh has been replaced by Jake Fraser-McGurk in the team. The latter’s injury will keep him out of the series and the Champions Trophy that follows. Cummins and Hazlewood, meantime, are also recuperating from their wounds. In contrast, Stoinis declared his retirement from ODI cricket.
Additionally, auditions will be held for the final three positions by Tanveer Sangha, Spencer Johnson, Ben Dwarshuis, and Sean Abbott. When they play Sri Lanka in the ODIs, they should get the chance to demonstrate their abilities. Steve Smith is notably guiding Australia in the Test series against Sri Lanka at the moment. There isn’t a captain assigned to the team selected for the ODIs. In the absence of usual captain Cummins, Smith will probably be in command here as well.
Australia completely loses the Test series.
On Sunday, February 9, Australia swept Dhananjaya de Silva’s team clean in the two-match series by defeating Sri Lanka by nine wickets in the second Test at Galle. Early in the fourth day, the hosts were bowled out for 231. The Test match was won by Australia with just 75 runs.
Before the foreigners were defeated by Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne, Travis Head was the only Australian batter to be removed. Alex Carey’s outstanding century in the first innings earned him Player of the Match. The R Premadasa Stadium in Galle is set to host the opening One-Day International (ODI) of Australia’s two-match series against Sri Lanka on Wednesday, February 12.
