Ricky Ponting, the former captain of Australia and now the head coach of the Delhi Capitals (DC), talked about his chat with India’s flashy batter Virat Kohli during the IPL 2023 season. The Australian legend said that Kohli feels like he’s back to his “best form” and that all Australians will want to beat him in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 Final.
Notably, the two fierce foes will play each other at the Oval in London on June 7, right after the end of the top league. On Friday, May 19, Ponting talked about his conversation with Kohli after DC’s game against RCB in Bengaluru. He did this at the official start of the event in New Delhi.
Ricky Ponting also said that Kohli thought he was at his “absolute best,” citing his brilliant century against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 17.
“I saw Virat Kohli when we played them in Bangalore about a month ago. And we had a good talk about his hitting, where he was in his career, and how things were going for him. He told me at that time that he almost feels like he’s back to his best,” Ponting said during a conversation at the event.
“You probably saw that (Kohli’s century against SRH) last night. He’s had a very good IPL, and I’m sure all the Australians are looking forward to taking his wicket,” he said.
The Indian players will think about how to handle their workloads.
Since there are so many matches, it’s no secret that the BCCI is trying to come up with a plan to make sure the players don’t get too tired before the WTC Final. Ponting also talked about balancing work and play, saying that IPL players will try to do both well so they can do their best in the red-ball summit clash.
“The Indian players who are here for the IPL won’t only be thinking about the IPL. “They’ll be working on managing their workloads to make sure they’re ready to bowl in a Test match in two weeks,” Ponting said.
