Axar Patel, captain of the Delhi Capitals (DC), was punished for his slow over-rate in the previous IPL 2025 encounter against the Mumbai Indians (MI). He received a fine of INR 12 lakhs because this was his first infraction. According to Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, captains who exhibit slow over rates for the first time throughout the competition face a punishment of INR 12 lakh.
In the past, depending on the seriousness of the violation, the captain would be suspended from one game if the offence was committed more than once. The IPL committee has, however, eliminated the tournament’s suspension regulation, and infractions will now only be punished with fines and in-field limitations.
After winning four straight, the Axar Patel-led DC squad lost their opening match of the season by a score of 12 runs. MI’s hitters scored 205 runs in the first inning, which was breathtaking. MI won its second match of the competition thanks to the combined efforts of Ryan Rickelton (41 off 25), Suryakumar Yadav (40 off 28), Tilak Varma (59 off 33), and Naman Dhir (38* off 17).
DC’s winning streak comes to an end, as Karun Nair’s valiant batting performance is in vain.
The DC batsmen struggled in the middle order, which resulted in their first loss of the season, even though Karun Nair had a strong innings of 89 runs off 40 balls in the opening match. Nair put together a logical 119-run partnership with Abhishek Porel (33 off 25). Nevertheless, the Delhi hitters continued to lose wickets at regular intervals following Porel’s departure.
As he took three wickets and prevented DC from pursuing the target, Karn Sharma was MI’s “star” of the game. The ‘Player of the Match’ title went to him because of his outstanding bowling feat. Mitchell Santner, who took two wickets, was equally outstanding with the ball. All of the other bowlers, including Jasprit Bumrah, were hit for maximums and boundaries, with the exception of Deepak Chahar and Karn Sharma.
