Imran Khan, the legendary captain of Pakistan, has once again drawn comparisons between India’s star batsman Virat Kohli and Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam. Since Babar’s debut in international cricket, Pakistani supporters and former cricketers have frequently stated that he is capable of competing with Virat Kohli.
Recently, the captain who won the 1992 World Cup, Imran Khan, stated that Babar can easily surpass Kohli. Notably, Kohli has amassed 25,385 runs in 498 international matches, including 75 centuries. Babar, who is six years younger than Kohli, has accumulated 12,270 runs in 251 matches, including 30 centuries.
“Although I have not recently watched cricket, I believe that Virat Kohli and Babar Azam are of the same calibre. Babar Azam can certainly surpass Virat Kohli. According to my observations, he is that excellent,” Khan was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Babar recently surpassed Kohli to become the quickest player to reach 5,000 runs in one-day internationals. He reached the milestone in only 97 innings, surpassing the former India captain, who had reached it in 114 innings. After accomplishing this achievement, Babar also surpassed Hashim Amla (101) and Vivian Richards (114).
The Pakistan captain also matched another Kohli’s record by reaching 3,000 runs in T20Is in 81 innings, making him the quickest batsman to do so.
Babar’s career has been on an upward trend.
While Babar trails Kohli in ODIs and Tests, he is only 523 runs behind him in T20Is to become the batsman with the most runs in T20Is. In 2022, the Pakistan captain also broke Kohli’s record for the most days spent as the top T20I batsman (1013) and set a new benchmark for 1155 days.
Babar’s career has been on the rise, as he received the prestigious ODI Cricketer of the Year and Cricketer of the Year accolades in 2022. I will do it
