Bangladesh easily trounced Afghanistan in Match 9 of the Asia Cup 2025 in Abu Dhabi, despite considerable opposition from Afghan hitters. Bangladesh captain Litton Das won the toss and chose to bat first. Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan got the team off to a good start with a 63-run partnership for the first wicket. Rashid Khan made the first breakthrough when he dismissed Saif.
Despite losing a few wickets, Bangladesh continued to score runs at a reasonable rate. Tanzid smashed 52 off 31 balls, including four fours and three sixes, while Towhid Hridoy made 26 from 20 deliveries. The lower-middle-order bats increased the score to 154 for 5 in 20 overs. Rashid Khan finished with a score of 2/26, while Noor Ahmad scored 2/23.
Afghanistan’s chase began disastrously, with Sediqullah Atal falling on the opening ball to Nasum Ahmed. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (35) and Azmatullah Omarzai (30 off 16) attempted to consolidate the innings, but wickets dropped often at the other end. Rishad Hossain and Nasum Ahmed both got two wickets for Bangladesh, while Mustafizur Rahman led the way with 3/28 in four overs.
Bangladesh eventually prevailed by eight runs, securing their second victory of the tournament. Afghanistan will attempt to recover in their next match against Sri Lanka.
