Bangladesh

On October 10 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala during the ongoing ICC Cricket Cricket World Cup, England defeated Bangladesh by a score of 137 runs. Dawid Malan’s 140-run innings helped England achieve a massive total of 364 in the allocated overs after being asked to bat first.

Additionally making big contributions were Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root, who scored 52 and 82 runs, respectively. Mahedi Hasan and Shoriful Islam, who each took four and three wickets, were crucial for Bangladesh.

The best bowler for England was Reece Topley, who had a four-for. Although Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim each scored half-centuries, Bangladesh was only able to score 227 runs in 48.2 overs, negating their efforts.

The key talking points from the game are as follows:

Dawid Malan’s explosive 140-run innings

In just 107 deliveries, Dawid Malan smashed 140 runs, including 16 boundaries and five maximums. The England opener added a new accomplishment to his resume as he became the player to reach the milestone of six hundreds in the 50-over format the quickest.

The important strike by Litton Das for his team

When practically all of the batsmen against England’s bowling assault went for cheap, Liton Das proved crucial for his team. The wicketkeeper-batter led his team in runs, scoring 76 off just 66 deliveries, including seven fours and two sixes.

Reece Topley’s four-for-four performance gives England their first victory.

The first victory in the current season for the defending champions was made possible in large part by Reece Topley. The fast-medium bowler completed the game with outstanding figures of 4/43 in his whole quota.

Losing Captain, Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh said:

It was a good toss to win, there was some rain last night. There was some help for the faster bowlers but we didn’t start well. When you give them a sniff, they will always come at us strong. We did well in the last 10 overs but it will always be tough to chase 350. We planned well, but we couldn’t execute. The ball was swinging nicely, needed to put in the right areas and build momentum.

Once they got the momentum it was tough to contain them. I think the position they were in, they could have scored 380-390, we restricted them well. But I think 320 would have been a good total to chase here. It is a long tournament, we have a tough fixture coming up in Chennai, NZ are playing well. We have to move on, keep doing the right things and take it one game at a time.

Winning Captain, Jos Buttler, England said:

Really good performance, stuck to our guns. Really important for us after a bad performance earlier. The back end I think we should have scored a few more, we could do well with some partnerships at the back end. It was fantastic to see Dawid Malan stand up and get a big hundred after what happened first game. We are always looking for the perfect performance, can’t remember the number of times it actually works out. One of the challenges is going to be reading the conditions and pitch well, we have a fantastic, balanced squad – a good combination of swing and spin. Today was fantastic to see Reece Topley come in and perform that way.

Dawid Malan, Player of the Match said:

It’s nice to contribute, been a long journey to try and get to this stage, so to get here is fantastic and then to put in performance to win a game is great as well, I don’t know what it is down to to, hopefully it will continue (talking about his incredible form this year). Sometimes I play good shots and sometimes I play bad shots and that’s cricket (talking about the criticism), it’s always about trying to cash in against some type of bowling which is yours on the day.

When you got Root at three who is so consistent, it allows us to play a bit freely. I’m desperate to do well this format, desperate to win games of cricket and prove a point and prove people wrong. So, when I get in, I don’t like to give it away.
