Mohammed Siraj, the fast bowler for India, is prepared for the five-Test series that will begin in Hyderabad tomorrow against England.
He discussed his Test debut against Australia a little over three years ago, the differences in his demeanor on and off the field, and if England can successfully use Bazball in Indian conditions in an exclusive interview with JioCinema. Take-outs:
In 2020, he made his Test debut in Melbourne against Australia.
I was going through a tough period because my father had died. We were under quarantine, so no one could come see me. I was by myself. For me, that was the most challenging time. I talked to my family and comforted myself gradually. My father also wished for me to represent India in sports. After I chatted with my mother, she advised me to concentrate on playing and realize my father’s desire.
We had several quick bowlers in the side, so I wasn’t sure if I would get to play. In the second match, I made my debut; I did not play in the first. The value of the Test cap is different. Test cricket is treated with a different degree of respect. I therefore believed that my father would have been overjoyed when I made my Test debut on Boxing Day at Melbourne, the largest stadium in the world. His blessings were with me somewhere.
When he learned that he would be making his debut, he called who first.
My family was informed that I would be playing. However, I spent the entire night awake. I think I slept for about an hour. In an attempt to get to sleep, I had also taken a sleeping tablet, but it was ineffective! Despite my lack of sleep, I was eager to get going. All I wanted to do was go out and get wickets.
Regarding the disparity between his demeanor off and on the ground
I get upset when someone hits me for a boundary since I’m a fast bowler. I want to yank them off the next ball or smash their helmet. As a result, I make sure that I am constantly energized in the middle and intimidate the batsman.
Regarding adjusting to various game circumstances and formats
My length and line stay the same when I bowl with the new ball. Whether it’s the red ball or the white ball, I don’t alter anything. Because you have to pitch the new ball up to gain wickets, you have to bowl that five-six meter length. You must somewhat change the length if the ball isn’t swinging. I therefore make an effort to be consistent and pitch the new ball in the same location. Whether it’s the new ball or the old ball, that’s what I pay attention to. Up till now, my consistency has allowed me to take wickets.
His opinions about Bazball
In Indian conditions, England’s Bazball encounter might end in a day and a half or two. This is a difficult spot to hit consistently since the ball occasionally twists and occasionally straightens. Thus, I believe it will be challenging to see Bazball here. However, if they play it, it will benefit us because the game can end shortly.
As he got ready for the tour
The matches were ending soon on their last tour to India. In that series (2021), I believe I participated in two games. During the opening session of one of these, I bowled five overs and claimed the wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root. Therefore, the goal will be to limit the number of runs in every over that I bowl. It’s okay if I take wickets, but I’ll need to maintain my composure and keep applying pressure to the batsmen.
Regarding performing for the Hyderabad audience
I’m eager for every one of our Hyderabadi supporters to show up for the match. We adore them and eagerly await their assistance.
