In response to criticism of his recent public statements during Bangladesh’s ongoing T20 World Cup venue issue with India, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed Nazmul Islam from his position as Chairman of the Board’s Finance Committee.
Following an urgent online meeting, the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed the decision in an official statement. Strong criticism from the cricket community followed the action, with the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) calling for a national boycott of domestic cricket.
The BCB noted in its statement that the decision was made with the organization’s seamless operation in mind.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced that Mr. Nazmul Islam has been relieved of his duties as Chairman of the Finance Committee with immediate effect by the BCB President after considering recent events and what is best for the organisation.
The board established a temporary plan to maintain continuity and stressed that the action was taken in accordance with the authority afforded to the BCB President by its constitution.
“The decision is intended to ensure the Board’s business continue to run smoothly and effectively and was made in accordance with the authority granted to the Bangladesh Cricket Board President under Article 31 of the BCB Constitution. The BCB President will serve as the Finance Committee’s Acting Chairman until further notice, the BCB further stated.
In the midst of the debate, the Bangladesh Cricket Board also tried to emphasise its position on player welfare.
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board affirms that its top focus continues to be the cricket players’ interests. The Board is steadfast in its resolve to protect the honour and dignity of every player under its control.
With tensions rising over World Cup-related concerns and growing scrutiny of board governance and player relations, the development occurs at a delicate moment for Bangladeshi cricket.
