Najmul Abedin, the respected director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), is reportedly not prepared to stay in his position if things don’t get better quickly. A local TV program interviewed Najmul, who claimed to have had a heated argument with Faruque Ahmed, the BCB president.
Both of them were notably added to the board after Nazmul Hasan’s downfall. The National Sports Council made the appointments for Faruque and Najmul.
According to Najmul, the BCB was not operating in the manner he had anticipated.
In addition, he insisted that the way the board was being operated ought to be changed immediately.
“I just wanted to express that I didn’t anticipate a lot of things unfolding over my expectations. It’s not about what I want. However, I believe that things could have been better and that overall, things are not going the way they should right now. If things keep continuing that way, I might not like it and might consider leaving the BCB,” Najmul said.
Since I’ve played cricket for the past 40 to 45 years, I don’t think I need to start from zero when it comes to what I want to alter and what has to be done? In my capacity as a board director or coach, I am very clear about the changes I would like to see in particular areas. It’s not as if everything I desire must come true or that everything I want is right. However, not seeing those things (changes) was painful, and if that doesn’t change, I’ll definitely lose interest,” Najmul continued.
Faruqe, however, believed that a communication barrier and a disagreement in understanding were the causes of the alleged schism between him and Najmul at the time.
“There isn’t any dispute. While there may be certain issues within the organisation, they are not the same as war. I am the new board president, and Najmul Abedin is the new director. As you are aware, we have two new directors on our new board. From my playing days, I thought that talk could fix any problem,” he added.
The best way to resolve any team unhappiness is to talk to me about it. Since we are both inexperienced directors, we attempt to accomplish as much as we can alone. I had to make so many judgements that I couldn’t call everyone because I had to make those on an emergency basis, so there might be a communication gap in the later stages,” Faruque said.
“I spoke with Najmul Abedin today,” Faruque said on their miscommunications.
The President made it clear that he would be the best person to contact in order to settle any professional discrepancy. He emphasised the value of open and honest communication. Additionally, he stated that for the benefit of the board and its management, such situations can be prevented through transparent communication.
“Najmul Abedin and I spoke today. I’m hoping it will be resolved. No two people are alike. If I want to ask a question or don’t like something, I inform people as plainly as possible. Some people are reserved and introverted. Misunderstandings grow in this way. I have attempted to resolve that. He said, “If anyone has anything to say, he can come to me and we can work that out.”
