The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is looking for opportunities for Bangladesh to play an away series during the vacant August window this year. This follows the postponing of Bangladesh’s home series against India from August 2025 to September 2026 due to political concerns between the two nations.
This decision was communicated by Najmul Abedeen Fahim, Chairperson of Cricket Operations, on Wednesday, July 16. He also talked about what the administrative body had planned for the national team in the past against what they have now.
“At the time, we considered playing internal matches because the ‘A’ team had previously played against the national team. That was part of the previous plan. We are currently considering whether to compete against another team or play outside of the country for a brief time.
If this does not happen, we shall play internal matches,” Fahim warned in a BCB statement.
Following Najmul Hossain Shanto’s resignation, the operations chief was questioned about his captaincy of Bangladesh’s red-ball unit. Notably, Mehidy Hasan Miraz is one of the frontrunners to take over in the game’s longest format, having already done so in One-Day Internationals. The board did not want to pressure Fahim into making a decision and would rather accept his choice.
“No. Previously, there was adequate communication with him [Shanto]. I believe Shanto and the rest of the board understand what transpired. We really wanted him to continue, but now that he’s made his decision, we respect it,” Fahim remarked.
Shanto’s resignation as Test captain sparked a number of issues about the efficiency and efficacy of several cricket-related departments. Shanto previously stated that he did not believe in having three distinct captains for the three forms, as Litton Das was just named T20I skipper.
For the unversed, Fahim had even flown to Sri Lanka during the second Test of the two-match series to discuss the entire matter with Shanto in person. However, the then-captain eventually called his time on Test captaincy during a press conference held post the Colombo Test, with Shanto feeling it would be the right time for him to step away.
