The BCCI has added an hour to the allotted additional time for IPL 2025 matches. Many locations are impacted by the nationwide pre-monsoon rains, and there is no guarantee that they will host the event successfully. A change in clause 13.7.3 will take effect immediately, and all games in the 18th edition of the league will have an extension of 120 minutes of extra time starting on May 20.
In order to allow venues enough time to be ready to clear the stadium for the game in the event of rain, the BCCI confirmed that an additional hour has been added to the allotted time. The extra time has been increased to 120 minutes from the previous 60 minutes.
“Previously, the Match Playing Conditions stated that in the case of a delay, a 60-minute extension of time could be used to start league matches. The duration was increased to 120 minutes for playoff games. “The IPL Governing Council has decided that, effective May 20, 2025, all IPL matches (including league matches) will have a period of 120 minutes of extra time to commence the match due to the current threat of rain and the revised schedule,” the BCCI stated in a statement.
Rain has the potential to impact a number of matches: BCCI
The IPL has been temporarily halted because to border tensions between India and Pakistan, but it will resume on June 3. An emergency alteration to the IPL rules has been made because the new schedule conflicts with the inclement weather that is being experienced nationwide.
“As you are aware, following a short break, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has resumed. As a result of the break, the IPL will end on June 3, 2025. Rain is a possibility for a number of matches because to the early monsoon and the prolonged IPL season. The BCCI said in their communication that “as a result, Clause 13.7.3 of the IPL Conditions stands suitably modified for IPL 2025 only.” The IPL governing council has therefore made changes to the Match Playing Conditions.
