Reports: Cricketers’ wives will not be able to stay for the entire tour, BCCI forms new guidelines

Reports say the BCCI would impose tight player guidelines after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy catastrophe.

Reports: Cricketers' wives will not be able to stay for the entire tour, BCCI forms new guidelines

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the nation’s top cricket governing body, has taken a very active stance in recent weeks, particularly after Rohit Sharma and company lost the five-match Test series against Australia and lost the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in ten years.

The head coach, Gautam Gambhir, skipper Rohit, and chairman of the senior selection committee, Ajit Agarkar, attended a review meeting of the cricket regulatory body on Saturday, December 11.

Following the poor outcome in Australia, the BCCI is reportedly planning to introduce new rules for the players.

Wives of cricket players will not be permitted to remain for the duration of a tour, per the regulations. During a 45-day trip, a cricket player’s family may stay for a maximum of two weeks. Additionally, each player will need to take the team bus. It will not be permitted to travel individually.

India got off to a strong start with their BGT 2024–25 victory in Perth.

In Perth, Team India won the first Test by 295 runs, giving them a strong start to the series against Australia. They lost three of the following four Test matches, though. The Asian powerhouses were eliminated from the race to the World Test Championship (WTC) final as a result. Later this year, Australia will play South Africa in the summit match.

India was well-positioned to advance to the championship game. Their aspirations were dashed, though, by consecutive series losses against Australia and New Zealand. Senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit have also been criticised for their performance. With 190 runs from five games, Kohli did somewhat better than Rohit, who only scored 31 runs in three Test matches.

The only bright spots for India were the performances of Jasprit Bumrah (32 wickets from five games) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (391 runs from 10 innings). When the Men in Blue play England in June, they will be back in the longest format.
