The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season will see the introduction of a number of new rules by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), chief among them being the limitation of changing room access. Even on practice days, the BCCI has prohibited family members of players and support staff from accessing changing rooms in an effort to preserve discipline and streamline matchday procedures.
Furthermore, for practices and games, players have been asked to take the team bus. All franchisees and team managers received formal notice of these changes during a recent virtual conference on February 18.
Regulations to preserve the IPL’s professionalism have always been a priority for the BCCI.
But the board has gone above and above to guarantee a regulated environment because of worries about dressing room access and logistical discipline. In addition to introducing changes to matchday dress, fitness testing and practice schedules, these new guidelines were distributed to all franchisees by email.
The policies that are applied to Team India players during international matches are notably comparable to these procedures. As per one of the modifications, only authorised staff members are allowed to enter the dressing room and the playing field on practice and game days.
“On pre-tournament and tournament practice days, only authorised personnel are permitted to enter the dressing room and participate on the pitch. Family members of players and some of their friends can observe team practice from the hospitality section while travelling in a different car. For expanded support staff (net bowlers/throw down specialists), a list must be presented to the BCCI for permission. Non-match day accreditations for the same will be granted after approval.
The wearing of sleeveless shirts during presentation ceremonies is forbidden for players.
Furthermore, physiotherapists have traditionally utilised the main square to evaluate players’ fitness prior to games, although this practice is no longer permitted. The BCCI has made it necessary for all players to take the team bus to practise in order to maintain team cohesion and logistical efficiency.
Additionally, during games and at the post-match presentation, members of the IPL’s characteristic Orange and Purple caps must wear them for at least two overs. Players who repeatedly violate this rule face a financial penalty. Additionally, players are not allowed to wear sleeveless jerseys during presentation ceremonies. In the practice area, teams will have access to two nets and a side wicket for range hitting. Teams will not be permitted to use open nets, and they will not be permitted to prolong practice if another team ends early. Furthermore, it is forbidden for players and support personnel to sit in front of LED boards.
