The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suffered a significant financial hit when it lost its primary sponsor Dream11 following the passage of the Online Gaming Bill in parliament a week ago. This has resulted in the early exit of the famed fantasy sports platform as the Indian cricket team’s sponsor, in a deal worth INR 358 crore at the time of signing.
However, the BCCI has apparently set its sights on finding a new sponsor.
Currently, the BCCI is looking for a sponsor ahead of the Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025, which begins on September 9. There is also a future Women’s One-Day International World Cup, which India Women will co-host with Sri Lanka beginning September 30. As a result, the country’s premier cricketing authority is perplexed by the prospect of bringing on a new lead sponsor.
According to NDTV, the new arrangement with the new lead sponsor might be worth INR 450 crore, more than 25% more than the previous one with Dream11, which expired about a year before the originally agreed-upon three-year term. According to reliable sources, the Indian squad would receive INR 3.5 crore per bilateral encounter for about 140 matches until 2028, while multinational events will yield INR 1.5 crore per game.
India eye defending Asia Cup
The Indian men’s team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, will be heading into the continental competition with a power-packed line-up. They are also the defending champions, having won the previous edition in 2023, which was held in the 50-over format. The Men in Blue are placed in the Group A of the upcoming tournament alongside some fierce competitors like Pakistan, Oman, and the UAE.
They will be opening their campaign against Oman with a game on September 10 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Four days later, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side will be up against arch-rivals Pakistan for the marquee clash in Dubai. They will finish their league stage games of the Asia Cup against the UAE on September 19, whom they will face at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
