A warning concerning attempts to entice players into possibly corrupt activities has been sent to all parties engaged in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Players, coaches, support personnel, franchise owners, and even commentators are all on this alert.
A businessman from Hyderabad has been recognised by the Anti-Corruption Security Unit (ACSU) as having a history of corruption-related activities and known linkages to bookies.
ACSU claims that this person has been attempting to make friends with IPL players by posing as a fan.
The ACSU has instructed all teams to be on the lookout for any unusual encounters with the person and to report them right away.
His alleged method of trapping the targets involves sending costly invitations to parties and giving pricey presents, such jewels. On social media, the person is suspected of approaching the relatives of franchise owners, players, and employees in certain cases, offering to take them to upscale jewellery shops and five-star hotels.
Additionally, he has been observed trying to build personal relationships with players and staff at team hotels and stadiums. There are verified reports that he gave gifts to the participants’ families as well.
The ACSU underlined that their work has become more difficult due to technological improvements, since dishonest people are using more advanced techniques to approach possible targets. The unit advised all IPL participants to remain vigilant and to report any interactions or contacts with questionable people right away.
The BCCI promised that every effort will be made to stop corrupt practices in the IPL and reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to upholding the sport’s integrity.
The 2025 Indian Premier League is presently under progress, with the final set for May 25 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
