The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is assessing different strategies to improve women’s red-ball cricket following their recent success in Test matches against Australia and England.
Multiple-day matches are reportedly intended to introduce new cricket players to the sport and provide an opportunity for those who wish to improve their skills to be considered for the national squad.
Notably, the authority in charge arranges women’s List A, T20, and age group matches in India; however, multi-day matches ceased in 2018. Now that the second Women’s Premier League (WPL) edition is expected to commence in the final week of February, they are planning to bring them back with the intention of launching three-day competitions.
“The competition will begin in three days. Owing to time constraints, we are considering beginning with a zonal format. March or April is when the competition will come to an end. A BCCI official told The Indian Express, “We don’t currently have red ball cricket for the women’s team, and the BCCI felt it was time to start day’s cricket as well as domestic cricket for women.”

Diana Edulji, a former captain of India, said that playing longer format matches will teach the cricket players a lot and improve their ability to play correct strokes. She underlined the value of playing three-day and four-day matches, as the 67-year-old noted that cricketers will learn a lot about temperament by playing more red-ball games.
The most crucial aspect is organizing a three- or four-day home event. Playing more T20 cricket, in my opinion, helps you develop the mental toughness needed to stay at the wicket; you don’t simply swing your bat about for a while. You still need to know how to spend time in the center. Playing more of the longer formats teaches you how to play the correct shots in cricket. I ask that the BCCI hold a minimum of one home competition year for the extended edition. The extended version will sharpen your skills the more you play it, Edulji said.
