Ben Stokes praised Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja’s batting efforts after a thrilling fourth Test in the ongoing five-match series between England and India.
Notably, Sundar (101* off 206) and Jadeja (107* off 185) put on 203 runs for the fifth wicket to preserve the match for their team.
Stokes praised the two for their ability to deliver under pressure.
“You have to give Washington and Jadeja a lot of respect for the way they came in and played there, despite the fact that they were clearly under duress. So, to put together that relationship the way they did, I have to give them a lot of credit. Yes, I believe India has done all of the hard work. “They both (Washington and Jadeja) played extremely well,” Stokes said during the post-match presentation.
The wicket gradually became easier to bat on. Ben Stokes
Without detracting from India’s batting performance, the English captain observed on how the wicket behaved differently after the left-handed pair entered in the middle as opposed to when KL Rahul and Shubman Gill batted.
“I believe that as the game continued, the wicket became increasingly easy to bat on. As the game progressed, you could see how difficult it was for right-handers on that wicket, especially this morning with the inconsistent bounce. And also it didn’t appear like there was any variability in bounce for left-handers,” he continued.
Stokes’ performance in the match was quite remarkable too. He secured the Player of the Match accolade for his all-round showing (5/72 in 24 overs, 141 off 198, 1/33 in 11 overs). The final contest is scheduled to commence at The Oval on Thursday, July 31.
