The Christchurch-born adapted perfectly well from his natural game of playing attacking shots to playing in a much more cautious and composed manner due to the bowling-friendly nature of the Lord’s deck. Although he could not score half-centuries in any innings, his knocks of 44 and 33 in the first and second innings, respectively, added vital runs to the English total.
He bowled a total of 44 overs and picked up five wickets across both innings. A notable aspect of Ben Stokes with the ball was his ability to keep persisting with nagging channels at the Indian batters. He exhibited unbelievable stamina by bowling 19.2 overs across two fiery spells on the final day of what turned out to be an absolutely enthralling game, where the hosts emerged victorious in a cliffhanger of a contest.
