Playing in Pakistan’s final ODI series in New Zealand in December were Maroof, the team’s captain from 2013 to 2020, and Fatima. The away team finished 1-2 in the series. Maroof ended up being the third-highest run scorer for Pakistan, with 89 runs scored in the three games. In the last one-day international, she struck a solid 68 off 86 balls, helping the tourists win the Super Over. With six wickets from three games at an average of 28.67, Fatima finished as the top wicket-taker, demonstrating her excellent performance.
In the meantime, the West Indies revealed their team lineup for the series a month ago. The players will gather on Saturday, April 6 for a one-week training camp in Dubai. The ODI Women’s Championship includes three 50-over games.
Bismah Maroof and Fatima are undoubtedly two of the most important players on the Asian side.
The first Pakistani woman to reach 1,000 runs in 50 overs was the former, who has participated in 140 T20Is and 133 ODIs. Yet Fatima, who debuted for the national team in 2017, has participated in 15 one-day internationals and five Twenty20 internationals since then. Before the series against the West Indies, supporters will be praying for a swift comeback.
