India were reduced to 211 for 5 as Ravindra Jadeja came to the crease on the first day of the second Test between England and India at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Ravindra Jadeja joined India’s captain Shubman Gill at the crease. While the team was in difficulty, the two stood firm in the middle, playing a risk-free style of cricket. Jadeja came close to scoring another hundred at the venue, but fell short by 11 runs, finishing for 89 off 137 balls.
Meanwhile, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan was impressed with Ravindra Jadeja’s batsmanship.
He went on to say that the Saurashtra-born player played shots with even pace and bounce of the wicket, yet he was able to stay on top of the ball even when the conditions were not ideal. Despite the fact that he had already lost half of his team, Pathan was pleased with his performance.
“The shots he took off the back foot, particularly the fours between cover and mid-off, were challenging. If the ball bounces more or faster, you may lose your wicket. He was, nonetheless, attempting to maintain control of the situation. He couldn’t do that after he got out because the ball was closer to his body. However, he had no problems when he gained even a tiny breadth,” Irfan Pathan said on Sony Sports.
“He only got an outside edge yesterday (on Day 1), when a four went between gully and slip, but the control he demonstrated and the knock he played were crucial for Ravindra Jadeja.” Many people, including me, had spoken about his bowling on the fifth day, and the player is aware of the criticism. Both you and the squad were under pressure, and you delivered an excellent performance,” the former all-rounder continued.
While his job with the bat is done, he will be trying to do an impressive job with the ball as well. The pitch is expected to offer assistance to the spinners, and the experience that Jadeja carried, he is expected to be among the wickets to put on display, his all-round prowess. England currently trail by 510 runs and India will aim for a lead before coming out to bat for the second time.
