In the first ODI between Zimbabwe and Ireland, played on February 14 at the Harare Sports Club, young Zimbabwean sensation Brian Bennett had a spectacular day, smashing his career-high score of 169 in the format. Additionally, it was Zimbabwe’s fifth-highest individual ODI cricket score. He is also the fifth Zimbabwean player to ever surpass 150 runs in ODIs.
The fourth youngest player in history to score 150 or more in an ODI innings is Brian Bennett, who is only 21 years and 96 days old.
The youngest age was 20 years and 4 days old when Paul Stirling scored 177 against Canada in 2010. The fact that he has surpassed cricketing greats Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendullkar to have more than 150 ODI scores before turning 22 is the most significant statistic to come out of his innings.
When Kohli broke the 150-run mark for the first time in ODIs, he was 23 years and 134 days old. Sachin, however, was 198 days old and 26 years old. The fact that Bennett is Zimbabwe’s second-youngest century in Test matches further demonstrates his skill with the bat.
Speaking of the game, Bennett’s 169 runs were the main source of Zimbabwe’s 299/5 total. Ireland’s response saw them bundled up for 250 runs in 46 overs after a brilliant four-fer from Blessing Muzarabani.
