Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs criticised the Indian cricket team, claiming that a lack of effort resulted in their defeat in the third Test against England at Lord’s. India’s top-order batsmen failed to deliver as they chased a 193-run mark. Although Ravindra Jadeja struck a valiant half-century to keep the side in the game, they were ultimately defeated by 22 runs.
Gibbs resorted to social media to offer his thoughts on India’s performance, including a scathing remark on the lack of desire during the run chase.
“Came close in the end, but India’s lack of intent cost them the game,” Gibbs wrote on X.
Although many people assumed the comment was meant at Jadeja, Gibbs later explained in a response that he was referring to Jasprit Bumrah.
“Bumrah has the most runs in an over for a batsman in test cricket… where was that intent today?,” Gibbs answered to one of the chats in the same thread.

Gibbs was referring to Bumrah’s record of 35 runs in a single over in Test cricket, set against Stuart Broad on the 2021-22 tour, when he commented about India’s batting lack of desire. However, Bumrah was unable to duplicate his heroics against Ben Stokes’ team in the third Test at Lord’s on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Indian skipper Shubman Gill expressed dissatisfaction after India’s narrow 22-run defeat despite chasing a modest goal of 193. Despite the loss, Gill said he was happy of the team’s fight and felt they might have done better with the bat, particularly in the last session of Day 4.
India’s tail-enders, namely Jadeja, demonstrated great resilience. Jadeja delivered an important knock, and Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj formed significant partnerships with him when India sank to 82 for 7. Gill stated that a couple of 50-run partnerships from the top order would have probably sealed the chase.
Now, the fourth Test is set to take place at Old Trafford in Manchester, beginning on July 23. It is worth mentioning that The Three Lions currently lead the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-1.
