Two Indian cricket bodies, the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) and the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), received bomb threats via email in the early hours of Wednesday, May 7, following the Indian Armed Forces’ Operation Sindoor.
Interestingly, CAB got the email while the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) game was still going on at Eden Gardens. According to reports, it originated from an unidentified ID in the official inbox. As a result, while the authorities are looking into the situation, stadium security has been further strengthened.
The threat was also sent to GCA by email at the opposite end of the nation.
The email is said to have originated from a person residing in Pakistan, and the Ahmedabad police have been notified.
“We will blast your stadium”, the email read from an ID named ‘Pakistan JK’.
Before the KKR-CSK match, the IPL commemorates the Indian Armed Forces.
With the words “Proud of the Indian Armed Forces” displayed on the large screens at the stadium, both sides lined up for the national anthem before Match 57 got underway at Eden Gardens this evening.
The Pakistan Army has been firing at the Line of Control in retaliation to India’s response to the Pahalgam terror incident. There are rumours that matches in Dharamsala may be moved because of the difficult situation in north India. Crucially, Punjab Kings (PBKS) will host Delhi Capitals (DC) there tomorrow, May 8, however it is unclear if there will be an official announcement regarding the rescheduling.
The Mumbai Indians’ (MI) scheduled flight to Dharamsala for today has been postponed. It will be impossible for the IPL teams and other stakeholders to travel to several locations in the region in the coming days due to the closure of numerous airports in northern India.
