On Friday, February 28, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the Delhi Capitals defeated the Mumbai Indians by a commanding nine wickets, led by Meg Lanning, and advanced to the top of the points standings.
Delhi chose to field first after winning the toss. Mumbai reached 35 inside the powerplay thanks to the careful cricketing of Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia. In the sixth over, Bhatia was out for 11, and in the seventh over, Matthews was out for 22.
Ameria Kerr and Harmanpreet Kaur were given starts but were unable to take advantage of them and score significant runs. Amelia left for 17, while Harmanpreet was fired for 22. Mumbai reached 123/9 in their 20 overs thanks to a cameo of 17 deliveries from Amanjot Kaur, while Jess Jonassen and Minnu Mani caused the majority of the damage.
In four overs, Jonassen finished with figures of 3/25. Mani, meanwhile, made a contribution by going three for while giving up 17 runs in three overs. Annabel Sutherland and Shikha Pandey each contributed one wicket.
In response, Lanning and Shafali Verma hammered 85 runs off of just 59 balls with ease. Verma was out for 43 off 28 balls, indicating that she was the more aggressive batter in the duo. During her brilliant innings, the right-handed batter hit three sixes and four fours.
Jemimah Rodrigues joined Lanning in the centre when Amanjot sacked her. The latter smashed nine boundaries and remained undefeated at 60 off 49 balls. Delhi won by nine wickets in 14.3 overs thanks to Jemimah’s undefeated 15 from 10 balls.
