The Champions Trophy is currently in its first week. Pakistan, the tournament hosts, lost badly to New Zealand in their inaugural match on Wednesday to begin their campaign.
They received a fine the day after the game for continuing to overrate slowly. Pakistan ended up falling one over short of the goal, and although the umpires Richard Kettleborough, Sharfuddoula, Joel Wilson, and Alex Wharf made the accusation, match referee Andy Pycroft accepted it, which resulted in a five percent loss from their match pay.
The ICC said, “After time allowances were taken into consideration, Pakistan were found to be one over short of the target.”
The ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses minimum over-rate offenses, explicitly stipulates that players will be penalized 5% of their match fee for each over they fail to bowl within the designated time. This action was taken in accordance with that code. After the Pakistani captain entered a guilty plea to the charges, no formal hearing was necessary.
Injury problems for Pakistan persist
In addition to the offense, Pakistan has had a number of prominent players disqualified from the competition. Opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq has taken the place of Fakhar Zaman, who was recently ruled out due to a lower back injury sustained against New Zealand.
Speaking of Pakistan’s upcoming games, they will play Bangladesh on February 27 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and India on February 23 at the Dubai International Stadium to complete their Group A schedule.
